This week I entered a few photographs into the Swedish Championships for Portrait Photography (SM Porträttfotografi). It was a little stressful at the last minute printing my FineArt prints, and mounting them, packing them to be posted. They had to be mounted 40x50cm prints with only a 3mm tolerance and arrive without damage. hmm… ok. So that all went well in the end if at the last minute. Then off to Särö I went for this years Svenska FotoGrupps annual meeting and seminar days. The first evening started out with listing the 3 judges comments on many of this years entries. The judges were from Swedish, Denmark and Norway, They are all truly brilliant photographers with many years experience and really and inspiration. It was a very rich evening and fun too since 2 of my 5 portraits went through to the ‘final’ which would then go ahead behind closed doors. I had a great time meeting so many other lovely portrait photographers. We could indulge in talking photography and business for essentially 3 whole days! On the last night it was the conference dinner and the  results were announced. I didn’t have much hope but of course a little excitement was there in my belly….and then they called my name for the Silver medal in Children s portraits! OMG! I went up with shaky hands, cried out, “fy” and accepted my medal. I’ve been running my business for a few years now but this year took the step, as you’ve all read to focus wholly on photography and opened my studio in Tullinge. It may only be an SM Silver medal (i didn’t win the total competition over all 6 categories or anything) but it’s  a great confirmation that following my heart was the right thing to do, and believing in myself wasn’t completely unfounded. So I wont be translating this text to Swedish this time since I think it’s better to express these feelings in my language… I hope my Swedish readers can forgive me…

So, the Silver medal photograph…

I photograph a lot of children and I’m so glad to say that most of the time I get to photograph the whole family, mum and dad included. It’s so important to be in your photographs too. it’s something I’ve also loved doing. As a photographer, it’s not for the faint-hearted, It’s not easy! But it’s worth the extra mile. Capturing the real relationships within a family is my goal, not just a portrait of how you look, but how you feel about each other too. The pride a mum feels when her little ones gives her the biggest hug. Or the joy a dad feels when his kids laugh so loudly when they play. These moments are priceless. These photographs are so important for your children when they grow up. They won’t remember so much from this time, but these photographs will remind them of how much they are adored, and of how much they loved their parents too…particularly important perhaps when they are teenagers?!  Anyway, here’s a fabulous family I photographed just after midsummer.

Babies in the studio…I love that! I’ve just bought a whole load of new props and the cutest lace dress and onesie for a new set I am designing. I can’t wait to get photographing with those pieces! This session was with a beautiful girl who’d I’d photographed 3 years ago when she was a baby.  It’s really wonderful for me when families come back to photograph their children as they go through all their stages of development, especially when they bring their twin baby sisters with them!  There are so many beautiful portraits of each of them so there are several here to share with you.

Bebisar i studion … Jag älskar det! Jag har precis köpt en mängd nya rekvisita och de sötaste spetsklänning och body för en ny scen jag designar. Jag längtar tills allt blir klart och att få fotografera med dessa fina saker! Denna session dock var det mest nakna bebisar som gällde. Jag var med en vacker flicka som jag fotograferade för 3 år sedan när hon var bebis. Det är verkligen underbart för mig när familjer kommer tillbaka för att fotografera sina barn när de går igenom alla sina utvecklingsstadier, särskilt när de kommer med sina tvilling systrar med dem! Det finns så många vackra porträtt av var och en av dem så det finns flera här att dela med dig.

I’ll be photographing on the beach in Bjärred and your private viewings a few days after your session will be in Svedala where I’ll be staying with my lovely in-laws and my children for a few days. (hmm…flying down alone with 2 little ones under 4, this will be a first!) Speaking of my children… I photographed them this Summer while we were down in Skåne and fell in love with the photographing on beaches. I’m so jealous, this is so hard to find, or far out to travel, up here in Stockholm….perhaps I should move!

Jag kommer till Skåne! Jag ska åka dit för att fotografera en familj jag har tidigare fotat och tänkte att jag kunde ändå fotografera lite fler familjer när jag ändå är där. Jag älskar bara att fota på de underbara stränderna som Skåne har att erbjuda.  Hav, sol och sand är den perfekta platsen för dina familjeporträtt. Sanddynerna, det långa torra gräset med en härlig pastellig färgton är underbar för magiska porträtt som sedan uppskattas i många generationer. Ring för att boka din fotografering vid Bjärreds strand! Först till kvarn – begränsat antal platser. Tider finns 30-31 augusti med bildvisningstider veckan därpå i Svedala. Missa inte denna möjlighet!

On my way to the photo studio I bike past this small public lawn which was covered, and I really mean COVERED, in daisys! I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a lawn so densely packed with them. I knew I had to photograph there….time was ticking and they would soon wilt and die, and all my bookings were studio baby sessions… the warmth had only just arrived so outdoor sessions hadn’t started to trickle in then. So I took my own kids there one afternoon after nursery. Oskar was a little confused because I said we were going to take pictures in a field with daisys and he thought my dearest friend Daisy (and godmother to Alice) was coming… poor Oskar was a little bewildered.

Thier clothes break all my rules about colour scale, small patterns and motives… but it doesn’t bother me so much since I just wanted to get some portraits of them alone, not a family portrait, and it was all a little last minute. This week though I took some fabulous portraits of my family in the evening sun at a beach in Skåne and I chose their clothes VERY carefully and it turned out great! I’ll share these with you a little later.  All the families I photograph get lots of information about how to plan for their session so their portraits are the best and most presentable they can be, and this includes clothing advice.

So, anyway, the results?…here is Oskar 3½ and Alice 1½ amoungst the daisys…my babies are becoming so big! (A note to photographers reading this; images are converted in camera RAW only, no specific artistic editing or retouch since I’m working on my laptop without my wacom board and pen…boo hoo).

På min väg till fotoateljé i Tullinge cyklar jag förbi denna lilla gräsmattan som var täckt, och jag menar verkligen täckt, av tusenskönor! Jag vet inte om jag någonsin sett en gräsmatta så tätt packade med dem. Jag visste att jag var tvungen att fotografera där …. tiden gick och de skulle snart vissna och dö, och alla mina bokningar var studio bebisfotograferingar … värmen hade precis kommit så jag hade inte hunnit boka några utomhussessioner. Så jag tog mina egna barn dit en eftermiddag efter dagis. Oskar var lite förvirrad eftersom jag sa att vi skulle ta bilder i ett fält med ‘daisys’ och han trodde att min käraste vän Daisy (och gudmor till Alice) skulle komma … stackars Oskar var lite förvirrad.

Barnens kläder bryter alla mina regler om färgskala, små mönster och motiv … men det var inte så viktigt eftersom jag bara ville få några porträtt av dem ensamma, inte ett familjeporträtt, och allt var lite i sista minuten. Det fick vara så helt enkelt. Denna vecka dock som jag skriver tog jag några fantastiska porträtt av min familj i kvällssolen på en strand i Skåne och jag valde deras kläder mycket noggrant och det syns på bild!  Jag ska dela dem med er lite senare under somamren när jag har jobbat ikapp. Alla de familjer jag fotograferar får massor av information om hur de planerar för sin session så deras porträtt blir det bästa de kan vara, och detta inkluderar råd om kläder.

Så, hur som helst, resultatet? … Här är Oskar 3 ½ och Alice 1 ½ bland alla tusenskönor…. mina barn blir så stor! (En notering till fotografer som läser detta, bilderna konverterades i kamera RAW bara, ingen särskild konstnärlig redigering eller retuschering eftersom jag arbetar på min laptop utan min wacom bräda och penna … boo hoo. En ‘border’ har använts på ett par bilder dock som ni ser).

Summer is here and my outdoor family photography sessions are in full swing. This fabulous sesison was at home with the family under their apple tree which we made full use of. It was so beautiful! Their portraits are all ready now for collection and just need to be hung on the wall. I just don’t want to let them go… they are some of this years favourites for me so far. I’ve actually framed an extra one for my studio.

Vi även lyckades med några kusinbilder!

Sommaren är här och mina utomhus familj fotograferingsessioner är i full gång. Denna fantastiska barnfotografering var hemma hos familjen under deras egen äppelträd som vi fick god användning för. Det var så vackert! Deras porträtt är alla redo nu för upphämtning och behöver bara hängas på väggen. Jag vill bara inte att låta dem gå … De är några av årets favoriter för mig hittills. Jag har faktiskt inramade en extra för min studio!

I just LOVE my natural light photo studio in Tullinge. I moved in 6 months ago and after every photo session I get an overwhelming feeling of gratitude that I found my studio. The light here is just PERFECT! There are many reasons to love natural light: The photos look more real to the eye, I can photograph with ease using a short depth of field, there is no waiting for flashes to recharge, children can move around more freely in the studio and be at ease, and babies don’t get afraid of the flashing lights. One of recent visitors was baby P with his family and here are some of his parents favourite portraits.

Jag bara älskar min dagsljus fotostudio  i Tullinge. Jag flyttade hit för 6 månader sedan och efter varje fotosession får jag en överväldigande känsla av tacksamhet som jag hittade min ateljé. Ljuset här är bara perfekt! Det finns många anledningar att älska naturligt ljus: Bilderna ser mer verklig för ögat, jag kan lätt fotografera med kort skärpdjup, det finns ingen väntaetid på blixtar att ladda om, barnen barnen röra sig mer fritt i studion och vara till mods, och bebisar blir inte rädda för de blixtande lamporna. En av de senaste besökarna var barn P med sin familj och här är några av hans föräldrars favorita porträtt.

As a photographer there is always so much to learn which is part of what I love! It just never ends, traditional posing, modern fashion posing, using natural light in different ways, studio flash lamps with different modifiers, or methods of bringing out different emotions and expressions from my families and ladies. The latest thing I’ve learnt though has been how to film, whilst photographing, and editing a fusion film…. and that is?…. Fusion film is a film composed of both movie footage and still photographs cut together using movie making techniques together to music. Here’s a fusion film I made at the end of a course back in March (I think it was) of the lovely Anna with her mum. I photographed Anna and her 2 brothers a year before and knew she’d be a great little movie star for my first film….and I was so right! For those of curious about this fabulous song, it’s by Mindy Gledhill bought at triple scoop music.

Som fotograf finns det alltid så mycket att lära sig och det är en stor del av det jag älskar! Det tar bara aldrig slut: traditionellt posering, modern mode poserering, användning av naturligt ljus på olika sätt, studioblixtar med olika modifierare, eller metoder för att ta fram olika känslor och uttryck från mina familjer och kvinnor. Den senaste sak jag har lärt mig om är att filma, medans jag fotografera och sedan redigera en fusion film av matrialet …. och det är? …. Fusion film är en film som består av både film och fotografi klippt ihop till musik. Här är en fusion film jag gjorde i slutet av en kurs i mars (tror jag det var) av den vackra Anna med sin mamma. Jag fotograferade Anna och hennes 2 bröder året innan och visste att hon skulle vara en perfekt liten filmstjärna för min första film …. och jag var så rätt! För de som är nyfikna på den fantastiska låten, är det av Mindy Gledhill köpt på triple scoop musik.
